Frequently asked questions

It is wise to prepare a little before your waxing. To get the best experience please follow this guide to preparation for female waxing, these pointers will help everything go smoothly.

Clothing

We don't mind what you wear before waxing - but afterwards it would be great if you had something clean and loose fitting.

If you are having a leg or intimate wax wear loose fitting trousers not tight jeans.

For all intimate waxing, we advise wearing cotton underwear.

Previous shavers

Please leave 3 weeks before your wax appointment with us.

You will find you have hair at different stages of the growth cycle so whilst results should be good, it will not be optimum until you have had about 4 wax treatments.

Menstruation

You can be waxed during your period, although you may be a little more sensitive, so if you can plan ahead and work around it, so much the better. If not, no problem. If you feel pain more than most, it may be best to plan around it, otherwise it should be fine. A fresh tampon before starting the treatment is a must.

Previous waxers

Please leave 4-6 weeks before your appointment with us. Some client's who are particularly against being hairy come every 3 weeks which is just about possible for Hollywood or Brazilians, but you will not know for sure until you try it. We are aiming to get the hair length up to about half a centimetre.

Pre & After Waxing advise & Skin Conditions

Do yourself a favour and even if you normally have a brutal disregard for your skin, try to exfoliate a few days before your wax appointment, this will help to prepare your skin for the waxing treatment.

Exfoliating as a routine after your wax will help the hairs to find their way out of the follicle before your next waxing appointment.

After your wax, our therapist will ask you to read over our after waxing card.

Small White or Red bumps are common & perfectly normal tempory reaction, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms will subside over the next 24 hours.

Moisturise the area for 7 days from the day of your wax. You will recommend a  Lycon moisturiser by your therapist. To prevent ingrowing hairs we advise you to start using a Lycon body scrub to gently exfoliate the area twice a week.

No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments. Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools. No Tanning- Fake Tan, Sunbeds or sunbathing for 24 hours.

Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotion or other products to the area other than recommended by your therapist.

Avoid scratching or touching the area with unwashed hands.

It can take up to 4 waxing treatments for your hair to get into a growth cycle that gives you the best results. PLEASE DO NOT SHAVE between your waxing appointments.

To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks. Your hair & its growth will eventually become sparse & thin.

Tweezing at home

If you spot a stray hair when you get home after waxing (hopefully not!) by all means tweeze it out if it is within a day or so of waxing, otherwise please leave it as we are trying to get all your hairs into the same growth cycle and random tweezing will make the hair unavailable for waxing next time and so it will not get synchronised with the other hairs.

You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so.

It can take up to four treatments spaced evenly apart for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results.

Hair needs to be at least half a centimetre long before it can be successfully removed by waxing, so please do not shave, tweeze or use hair removal creams between your appointments.

For best long-term results, we recommend waxing regularly every 4-6 weeks.

Is the salon hygeinic?

We wear gloves for every intermit wax service.

No Double dipping of the spatulas into the wax pot which may be contaminated.

We use a sterilising soloution for instruments such as tweezers and scissors.

My pain threshold is low! What can I do to minimise the pain of an intimate wax?

Exfoliate gently for a day or two before your appointment. Moisturise too, but NOT on the day of your appointment.

Plan not to be waxed during your period if you are particularly sensitive, most women who have concerns are perfectly relaxed when they leave and were pleasantly surprised by how easy the whole wax process is.

Is waxing painful?

There can be slight discomfort but usually just momentary and not excessive, especially if it's your first time.

If you become one of our regular wax clients you will benefit from sparser regrowth and subsequent wax treatments become even easier and less painful - the hairs stop fighting.

The Lycon hot non-strip wax we use on your sensitive areas makes it less painful than the old-fashioned strip wax techniques on these areas.

What wax do you use at Simply Wellness Cardiff?

Welcome to the world of LYCON WAX.

We use Lycon percision waxing, which was established in 1978 in Australia, by internationally acclaimed beauty therapist Lydia Jordane.

Lycon encompass the fines selection of natural & soothing ingredients that nurture your skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth & completely hair free.

There are three different Lycon waxing methods:

HOT WAX

This is a stripless hot wax which shrink wraps and removes hair as short as 1mm!

Its perfect for short stubbed hair on any part of the face & body.

This wax can be reapplied 5-6 times on just waxed skin without affecting its superior grip & pliability cause no discomfort or irritation. It's fantastic for sensitive skins & areas. This method is far less painful than most & it pulls hair directly from the root. The benefits include fewer in-growing hairs, less breakage, resulting in longer re-growth periods. Hot wax also promotes skin hydration & is highly recommended for sensitive area.

LYCOJET

Lycojet wax is similar to traditional hot wax, however they are designed to be used much more thinly, one third of the thickness in fact. This makes lycojet perfect for short, brittle hair.

LYCON STRIP

This wax is fast to apply and has an extra strong grip with no sticky residue. Capable of removing hairs as long as 2mm.

All Lycon strip wax have the same formula, however they have their own individual beautiful colours and divine aromatherapy ingredients.

Is waxing right for me?

We cannot wax if you have a contagious skin condition, severe eczema, cuts or wounds.

We cannot perform intimate waxing if you have an STI. If you use Roaccutane, Retin-A , steroid cream, Differin or most acne products - you will need to wait for six months after finishing medication, as these medications can make the skin fragile and dry which is unsuitable for waxing.

We perform a full consultation prior to performing your wax, to make sure all is well.

Our tips on how to maintain your lady garden & maintaining the best results.

Keeping waxing a regualr part of your lifestyle will make every waxing session more and more comfortable. 4-6 weeks apart depending on your personal regrowth is what we recommend.

Exfolication is key to keeping pores unblocked, reducing the appearance of unslightly ingrowing hairs. Exfoliating also helps to remove dead skin, encouraging new fresh skin to grow. We retail a full range of Lycon spa scrubs & lotions. We recommend using these products 2-3 times a week.

Moisturising is the best way to keep your lady garden soft, smooth & radient. Lycon spa body lotion comes in a 50ml travel size & 250ml standard size.
